July 30,2008

One of the guys from the road show has his own parts business and deals with a lot of the race shops in the area. He asked one day if I wanted to go with him on a trip to Richard Childress racing. I accepted because he offered the opportunity to go on a tour of the winery. The winery and shop are located north of Mooresville in Welcome, NC. The grounds of the winery are spectacular. I never really had seen a vineyard. It was very interesting. The tour included the ground, the wine processing area, barrel and bottling areas. We also saw Mr. Childress’s private wine library…and I just want you to know there are no books in his library. After the wine tour we did a little wine tasting. That was fun! I then picked up a few bottles of wine and we were on our way. Just as we were leaving a back Tahoe pulled up and who got out but Mr. Childress himself. Apparently he like to spend as much time as possible at the winery.

Fall is in the Air

Finally, a wholebowl of apples - smelling so fresh and sweet. I thought theremight beenough for a pie, even though most of them were close to the size of golf balls. My cute little tree did prettygood this year.

Figured it was going to be a bit of work, but I got into it, chop - slice - dice. Stir in the cinnamon & sugar andyou know why you did this work, there is pure joy in that sweet/spicie aroma!

It was such a beautiful day, August in NorCal can be near perfect usually. We've had so many fires this year that a day with clear blue sky is totally exciting, I know how lucky we are to live here. As we traveled up to Portland last month the scenery was awesome but frightening because of the smoke in the air. I thought how horrible it would be if we polluted the air so much that it always looked like this. That's what they're doing in China I hear, and some of that makes it's way to us!! Somehow it's got to stop!

Monday 8/4/2008

-- I interviewed two new candidates for an assistant, one on Thursday another on Friday. There wasn't a lot of actual work being done, just mostly meetings and interviews. I settled on the first guy, his name is Jeff. With any luck, Mr. T. is making him the offer about now.

- HAPPY FUCKING AUGUST. (August is historically the worst month for me personally)

09:05 - Meeting with Ditty, Squirrelface, Hoppy, and Hoops about the outstanding portal audit info. Squirrelface is tossing out items that failed audit and I have to address them. One of the items is that "su permissions are 755 and should be 500".

it's idiotic.

- 09:06 - Call Brett.

- Squirrelface doesn't know what any of these audit items mean in a real-world application. The items on the list are just silly to me. Default umask is 022 and they want it to be 027. Whooptie-shit.

10:05 - Reboot of my workstation. Trying to connect to VDI kicks me out with a 503 error. Stephanie @3600 tells me it's because I'm using the "super secret engineering proxy" @202. and I need to switch it to confserver. Poof, I'm in.

10:15 - Mr. T reminds me AGAIN to log my time. Bah! Why do I always blow this off? :)

10:30 - Added Brett to wasadmin group on nymph to see if he can get the rsync CMS stuff working.

10:35 Mr. T. said Jeff doesn't want the job. Too stressful. hah, fuck. What a puss.

1:10 - Had rice for lunch. yay.

- Interviewing TC as a formality. He's an internal guy who wants to transfer to this open REQ, but he's no where near qualified for the job as far as I know. I have a ton of questions qued up that I hope he can answer.

00 Spoke with my friend Mitch. He needs a job reference. Gave him the OK to disclose my contact info.

3:30 - Rejected TC due to his lack of UNIX exp.

- Gave Mitch a GLOWING reference.

- Grabbed stats for Gunslinger on Thyme136

- Good Oscar called me about the K&K project. I asked her to schedule a meeting with Prince Chili Longhorn, myself, and Becky. She's going to make it Wednesday @1.

- Something is wrong with LDAP on Oceanus. Brett & I get in but can't sudo. It's pulling the info from the e-dir server so I don't know what the deal is. Asked Hoppy to check into it.

Monday Monday

Here we go, another week begins. I hate Mondays, I often call it "moan-day" cause the weekend is over and we all have to go back to the work of the week. I can't wait for Barry to retire, everyday will be the weekend!

We painted the bathroom this past weekend, sounds like work but it wasn't, it was fun. We work good together and the room was in such need that it really looks wonderful now. There is still some little things that are not done but all the paint is on the walls and the smell is on its way out.I bought new light fixtures that came with energy saving bulbs - you know, thoses curly ones? Well, we turned it on and whoa! way too bright!! and that was just one of the fixtures, there's another to hang yet! Gonna take those back, we don't need to feel like we're under a spotlight.

I'vealways loved having a room painted, it's amazing how the color change affects you everytimeyou enterthe room. We've livedhere for 19yrs and sowe've changed almosteveryroom at least once-except this one. I realized why over the last couple days, I don't like having my bathroom out of commission. Ifelt like a visitor in my own house.Barry said it felt likethe last time we stayed at a B&B, or like when we were camping. You have to bring everything you need with you to the shower andbe sure to bring everything back when you finish.

Boy, we were so tired last night at lights out. Slept real good,I have a full list of chores fortoday but I'm loven my morning coffee time, don't want to leave the mattress yet.

It is getting later, gotta hit the gym first thing so I'll sign off for today. Last thought: I emailedRusty on Friday, tested the water a bit, he hasn't responded yet - wonderwhen hewill - IF he will. He and I just got through another anniversary of our mother's death. I knew it but didn't mention it to him, wonder if heremembers.

Quotes from Nonsociety Julia

"A great number of people are running around thinking that they’re depressed when it may be that they’re simply disappointed." (Julia)

Philip Larkin - This Be The Verse

They f**k you up, your mum and dad.

They may not mean to, but they do.

They fill you with the faults they had

And add some extra, just for you.

But they were f**ked up in their turn

By fools in old-style hats and coats,

Who half the time were soppy-stern

And half at one another's throats.

Man hands on misery to man.

It deepens like a coastal shelf.

Get out as early as you can,

And don't have any kids yourself.

Answer your critics with silence and indifference. It works better, I assure you, than anger and argument. . . .

Well I guess so...anger does not get us anywhere I guess..Only makes things harder..but what can a person do when all they feel is anger...what are they suppose to do about it....Yeah you can sit in silence, but that does not solve anything either...I guess the only thing left for us to do is "Blog" about it....
