CPR: Facts and Causes

The info-graphic titled as “Facts Related to CPR and Its Causes”, describes all the important information about Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). CPR was invented in 1960 which consists of mouth-to-mouth respiration and chest compression. Every year in the U.S., about 92,000 people are saved by CPR.

CPR is very helpful as it can safe a person's life until more advanced procedures can treat the cardiac arrest patient. It allows oxygenated blood to circulate to vital organs such as the heart and brain. There may be several cause of sudden death that may require CPR out of which drowning, chocking, heart attack, severe allergic reaction, electric shock and drug overdose.

Facts about drowning and chocking:

  • In 2000, 160 children ages 14 years or younger died from an obstruction of the respiratory tract due to inhaled or ingested foreign bodies.

  • More than 90% of deaths from foreign objects occur in children younger than 5 years old, 65% of them are infants.

  • Children can be drown in as little as 1 inch of water

  • Drowning victims who are rescued from the water need CPR immediately before the paramedics arrive
