I arrived at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) much earlier than necessary.

My flight to New Delhi was scheduled for the afternoon, and I expected to spend several boring hours waiting near the gate. Instead, that quiet morning at Houston Airport became one of the most peaceful airport experiences I have had.

As I entered Terminal E, the international terminal at Houston Airport, I noticed something different from many crowded airports. The atmosphere felt organized and surprisingly calm. Travelers were moving toward immigration, airline check-in counters, and international departure gates, but there was no sense of chaos.

Sitting near a large window overlooking the runway, I watched aircraft arriving from Europe, Latin America, and other parts of the United States. It reminded me how important Houston Airport terminals are for passengers connecting between domestic and international flights.

What I Learned About Houston Airport (IAH)

Many first-time travelers do not realize that IAH has five passenger terminals:

• Terminal A – domestic flights
• Terminal B – regional and domestic operations
• Terminal C – major United Airlines domestic hub
• Terminal D – international operations
• Terminal E – primary international departures and arrivals

For travelers flying from Houston to India, Terminal E is often the terminal to check first, although airline assignments can change.

During my layover, I walked through the international departure area and found:

• Comfortable seating with charging outlets
• Good coffee and meal options
• Clear flight information displays
• Easy access to the Skyway train, which connects the terminals inside the secure area

That last feature impressed me the most. Unlike some airports where changing terminals requires leaving security and taking a shuttle bus, Houston Airport terminals are connected by the Skyway system, making transfers much easier for connecting passengers.

A few hours later, I met another traveler heading to Ahmedabad via Doha. He had arrived from Terminal C and was surprised by how smoothly the transfer to Terminal E worked. We ended up discussing flight routes, Indian food we missed while living in the United States, and how airport experiences can shape the mood of an entire journey.

As boarding began, I realized that the morning had given me more than just practical information about Houston Airport terminals. It reminded me that airports are not only transit points—they are places where thousands of different journeys briefly cross paths.
