I used to think airports were only places you passed through quickly.
That changed during a six-hour layover at Mumbai Airport (BOM).
My journey started with a delayed domestic flight from Kochi. Tired and slightly frustrated, I checked my next boarding pass and realized I had arrived at Mumbai Airport Terminal 1, while my international flight would depart from Mumbai Airport Terminal 2.
At first, I saw it as a problem.

After a short cab ride to Terminal 2, the atmosphere changed completely.
The bright glass walls, high ceilings, and beautiful Indian art installations immediately caught my attention. Instead of feeling like I was trapped in an airport, I felt as if I had stepped into a modern cultural space. I spent the next few hours walking through the terminal, enjoying a cup of coffee, watching aircraft taxi under the Mumbai night sky, and simply observing people beginning journeys to destinations all over the world.
That evening taught me something unexpected about Mumbai Airport terminals.
The most useful lesson was practical: T1 and T2 are separate terminals connected by road, so checking your BOM terminal information before traveling is essential. But the more important lesson was personal.
Delays, terminal transfers, and long layovers often feel like interruptions. Sometimes they become opportunities to pause, observe, and appreciate the journey itself.
As my flight finally boarded from Mumbai Airport Terminal 2, I looked back at the glowing terminal and realized that what began as a stressful connection had turned into one of the most memorable parts of my trip.
