Favorite part of Spring

My favorite part about spring is seeing all of the green lawns and the smell of freshly cut grass. Haven't seen any of that yet but I know it is coming in the next couple of weeks! My lawn care service in Minneapolis just gave me a great deal for the whole summer, so I don't have to look at dandelions and I can be smelling fresh cut grass all the time!

Easter Weekend

I had a great Easter weekend with the family. We all got together at my grandmother's house and caught up on what we've all been doing. I'm so happy that we can get together at least a few times a year. Grandma finally started to exercise again, so we're all happy to see her active after all of the health problems she's had over the years. Hopefully we'll have her around for many more years to come!

Teen Considering Plastic Surgery

My best friend's 18 year old daughter is considering plastic surgery. A breast augmentation if you can imagine. I just don't even know what kind of advice to give in her situation. Luckily she has a smart girl who has done her research and thinks she found a good Minneapolis plastic surgeon. My friend's hope is that the doctor will thoroughly explain the life-long commitment it will require being that she is so young. I wish them bost the best of luck because I certainly wouldn't know where to start if it was my daughter. Anyone been in a similar situation?

Yoga for back problems?

I went to see my chiropractor Dr. Strauman yesterday and told him how uncomfortable I have been lately in my back. I'm not in pain so I certainly do not want to take any medication or "pain relievers" but after my appointment he suggested I take up yoga. Even once a week will stretch out my muscles and relieve some of th tension I have been having. Has anyone else heard this suggestion before? I have done yoga before, just never realized the benefits beyond getting in shape.

Look @ my new chair!

Just got my chair back from Schneiderman's furniture and I absolutely love it! This chair has been in my family for generations, but you wouldn't know that by looking at it now! They had so many fabrics and colors to choose from, but I am very happy with my goldenrod decision and I think it works perfectly with the gold studs they replaced and it matches the rest of the decor in the room. Now I can have this chair in my family for many more generations to come

Roof decided!

I have been debating on the roof thing and I think I will go with the shingles again. That's really all my budget will allow and unfortunately there is no time to save up more. I contacted a couple of Minneapolis house builders. That one in particular specializes in custom green home building so he was pretty persistent on the benefits of doing a more efficient type of roof. Solar panels? Way too out of my price range! Maybe in my next home... in my next life.

Time for a new roof

Just can't seem to catch a break with the home improvement projects.
I just had All American Exteriors out at my house for a free estimate and they said it needs to be repaired this season and he was surprised the roof has lasted so long without leaking, and its only a matter of time. So far I've gotten an estimate from them and another local guy but he mostly does siding. I'm wondering if I should consider a new roofing material other than shingles. Because I really like the look of clay tiles, but I just might not have the right climate for that here in Minnesota or the budget for that matter!

Need pool side landscaping ideas

I have a pool that was built about a year ago by an Eden Prairie pool contractor. I am really happy with the work they did but now I just need to do my own finishing touches with the landscaping. Now that spring is just around the corner I need to find some hearty plants, ones that can outlive the splashes of chlorine. My mother suggested hostas, but I'm looking for something with a bit more color. Any ideas of colorful bushes or shrubs that I can add to the backyard landscaping? All suggestions are welcome, and Thanks in advance!

Need a new dentist

I think I need to find a new dentist. I just think that there are way too many options in the twin cities for a better dentist than to stick with the one we have. My son always comes back in a lot of pain and never seems to geet any of his questions answered. Call me crazy but those are minimal expectations to get from your densist. 1- to be in as less pain as possible and 2- to trust they know what they are doing enough to get a straight answer when asked a standard question.

My sister takes her kids to this Minneapolis dentist. It's worth a shot to try someone new. Now I just have to jump through the insurance hoops to make sure we're all covered there too.

Family Vacation

Well that's settled, my son has found a sport he loves. Golfing! Which is great because he can golf with my husband. We live in mn so its not exactly the right time to be practicing outside, but in the summer I am going to take them to one of the best golf resorts in Brainerd MN. Scratch that... I am sending them on a trip. (Why would they want their wife/mom with on a guy trip?) They have a championship golf course with 27 holes! That doesn't mean a whole lot to me, but I know they will just love it! Maybe this would make a great Father's day present. :) "I'll take my Cool mom/wife award now thank you!"

My son has convinced me to let him take laser safety training classes. He found a really good one for a decent price but I'm just worried about all of the extra expenses that go in to it after he is done with the class. His hope is to use what he learns some day in the workforce. I figured I can't go wrong as long as he has the proper training. But now he needs Laser safety glasses, safety barriers and he mentioned something about a laser safety window. I don't need to have all this in the home do I? I guess he could always use the storage space in the garage. But what do I know, he will soon be the expert.

Looking back on my life in an old age I think I would be most happy about getting my education and starting a loving family. You really can't ask for more than that.

My friend just got his garage floor coated. A great idea for living in MN because now he can use it for more than just a parking space. He used a company in Minneapolis called garage floor coating of MN. Anyone heard of them? I hate to trust review sites, it seems like some people just don't have anything better to do than to rip on reputable companies. I want to get my basement floor coated and I'd love to hear any info. or other suggestions someone might have.

Fireplace options

My goal is to put a new fireplace in my living room this winter. I was hoping to get it in before the snow was flying but I finally have enough saved up so I thought I'd make it a new year's resolution that I have to commit to. There are a lot of options to consider when putting in a new fireplace. I don't know if I'd be better off choosing one of the may wood stoves, gas stove, or gas fireplace inserts. Then there are many things to consider once you choose the right stove; like gas logs or wood pellet stoves.

If anyone can share their do's and don'ts about this process it would be much appreciated. I have heard from friends that there is a lot that can go wrong with a new fireplace including a huge heating bill that will follow if it isn't installed properly.
